华盛顿大学建于1861年，是西岸最古老的州立高等教育学府之一，也是世界上最卓越的研究型大学之一。西雅图华盛顿大学要分成三个校区：位于西雅图 University District的主要校区，以及位于Tacoma及Bothell的分部。自1989年起，华盛顿大学的教授中有5位获诺贝尔物理奖，有5位获得诺贝尔 医学奖。华盛顿大学采用学季制（Quarter），一个学季只有11个星期，各学季间有一至两周假期，课程繁重密集，极具挑战性。
